What is the Internet
of Things (IoT)?

What is the Internet of Things (IoT)?

Internet of Things, most commonly known as IoT, refers to billions of physical devices that connect to the internet via the cloud or other devices, often allowing users access to manage the device based on their need. The cloud allows the devices to easily collect and share data. Some examples of IoT are:

  • Thermostats
  • Smart Cars
  • Fitness Trackers
  • Smart Door Locks
  • Sensors (eg. rain sensors, liquid level switches, blood press sensors, etc.)
  • Smart Home Cameras

Why is IoT important?

Internet of Things (IoT) is important because it is predicted that 75 billion devices will be online by 2025. The need for security in IoT devices are on the rise with the growth of IoT devices in the market. Each of these devices will need to have strong identity built into the device for communications and integrity of the device. PKI will play a major part in security IoT devices.

How do you manage IoT devices?

IoT devices can be managed at scale with the ÃÛÌÒTV® IoT Trust Manager which tracks and identifies each device by its device identity and PKI certificate. IoT devices need secure authentication in order to protect them from unauthorized users who may access the device from a central server or gateway. IoT device security is also known as device identity authentication.
